1. Victoria Memorial – This beautiful white structure is practically synonymous with Kolkata. The white marbled luxurious construction was built by the British. This architectural splendor was built in the loving memory of Queen Victoria. The building is surrounded by vast lush green grounds. This is a very popular tourist destination and sees a large crowd every year.


2. Belur Math – Belur Math is situated on the west bank of the Hooghly River. This Religious place is the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Dev was a 19th-century Indian sage. This place spreads over an area of 40 acres and houses different buildings. The distinctive feature of the Aarti that takes place here is not by offering sweets and flowers but by sitting silently and meditating. This place is perfect to find peace and solace.


3. Birla Planetarium – Situated on the famous Chowringhee Road in the vicinity of St. Paul’s Cathedral and Victoria Memorial, Birla planetarium is the largest planetarium in Asia and the second largest in the world. This spectacular piece of the edifice was set up by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the second of July in the year 1963. Birla planetarium is famously known as ‘Taramandal’ because it is based on planets, astronomy, and everything related to this field of Science. The planetarium has huge collections of astronomical paintings and models.


4. Marble Palace – The Marble Palace was constructed by Rajendra Mallick in the year 1835. This opulent mansion is a grand structure. This palace has many rare and exquisite art collections. Original paintings by Rubens, Murillo, and Reynolds adorn the palace. Masterpieces by Rembrandt and Van Gogh embellish the Marble Palace. There are also statues and sculptures of dancing girls and others from the Victorian Era along with Belgian glassware and other invaluable things. The Marble Palace is located in north Kolkata.


5. Fort William – The structure of Fort William was incepted by the British but was reconstructed by the Nawab of Bengal, Shiraj al-Dawlah. This mighty edifice was named after King William II. It is a very important site for India’s historical past. The structure has intricate stonework with arched windows that watch over the verdant green gardens. Today it is the headquarters of the Eastern Command.


6. Howrah Bridge – The iconic Howrah Bridge needs no introduction. It is featured in movies, magazines, adverts, and everywhere. This huge steel bridge is built over the River Hooghly. The 705 meters of long stretch is always teeming with vehicles and people. This celebrated landmark connects the eastern and western banks of Kolkata and is also serves as a gateway to Kolkata. The Howrah Bridge looks spectacular at night when it’s lit up. The Hooghly River and the Howrah Bridge as its background is a sight to behold. The unique characteristic of this bridge is that it is held together by rivets and doesn’t have a single piece of nut or bolt.


7. Indian Museum – Did you know that the Indian Museum in Kolkata is the ninth oldest museum in the world and the largest in India? This notable place has an ancient architectural design and has 35 galleries. ‘Jadughar’, as it’s commonly and popularly known comprises of the first-class collection of numerous items from erstwhile times. It has remarkable Mughal paintings, rare ornaments, ancient armours, fossils, antiques, and skeletons. It also houses sculptures dating back to the 2nd century BC- Bharhut Gateway, artifacts belonging to bygone Indus Valley Civilization of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, Egyptian mummies, etc.


8. Tagore’s House or ‘Jorasanko Thakur Bari’ – The family mansion of Nobel-Laureate Rabindranath Tagore is located in North Kolkata. The former residence of Tagore overflows with history. Your visit to Kolkata will remain incomplete without paying a visit to this place. It has many items used by Tagore. The ancestral home of Tagore has been turned into a museum with fascinating paintings, his literary works, a self-composed invite of Rabindranath Tagore’s wedding, a rare picture of Tagore with Einstein, and many other things. 9. Botanical Garden – The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden which is commonly known as Botanical Garden was established in the year 1787. The charming 109-hectare garden is a beautiful place to visit. It is filled with expansive flora and fauna. Away from the humdrum of city life, this place with greenery all around will calm your senses. The beautifully manicured gardens and artificial lakes are a delight for nature aficionados and others.


10. Dakshineswar Temple – This is a highly revered temple that is thronged by thousands of visitors each day. The temple is dedicated to Bhavatarini, who is a manifestation of goddess Kali. It was constructed by Rani Rashmoni in the year 1855. It is a large-scale Temple complex that has 12 Shiv Mandirs. It is built in the ‘Nava-Ratna-styled Bengali architecture. The temple stands tall on the eastern bank of Hooghly River. It used to be the residence of Ramakrishna Paramahansa and his wide Maa Sarada Devi.
